Hallo all fen:)

Navigation post

I am presently attempting to write a paper about fan fiction.

Since Fan fiction seems to be very much a social phenomenon - So much an inseparable part of the fandom subculture –  It would be a very incomplete picture of the fan fiction phenomenon you would get by just reading the fan fictions without talking to the actual fans

So here be surveys. . . )

Feel free to. . .
  • Post anonymous answers.
  • Send your answers as personal messages if you would feel more comfortable doing so.
  • Skip questions you are not comfortable with.
  • Re-post these surveys were ever you please.
  • Send any of these surveys in orbit in meme-form.
  • Comment on my somewhat alternative take on the English language. English is not my first language and I am happy to learn:)

Are you hesitating to answer these surveys?

About the paper: It is mainly going to focus on the literary aspects of the fan fiction phenomenon. Especially the idea of fan fiction as an open sources kind of literature (not legally so unfortunately of cause) Where the reading is colored by the readers knowledge that she has the same "right" as the author to claim the pen for herself and thereby take the fiction in other directions than what the present text is attempting. Thereby making the roles as reader and writer considerable closer and more equal than what you see in the more official literature. Read More. . .

The library: Lists of links and titles - Fan fiction, Essays, Fan art etc. - Basically a collection of all kind of fannish things I have found useful and interesting. I made it for my own benefit, because I find it easier to navigate than my original collection of browser-bookmarks – but I do have the vain hope that someone else out there might find them interesting too . .

Living in a den of thieves, rummaging for answers in the pages. . .

This video is so awesome that I had to recommend it even though it Doesn’t have any connection to the supernatural fandom.
I like the way the song and the footage work together and how the song in this context becomes - like the national anthem of all of fandom.

The Video Us by Lim - The song Is Us by Regina spektor and the footage is from numerous fannish sources.
Here is Regina Spektors own video for the song - it is really impressive too

And then there is this old film - that inspired the music video above. . .

About the SPN Fandom

1:How would you characterize the supernatural  fandom in just 7 words?

2: How would you describe Supernatural fandom this time with all the words of the world to your disposal?

3:In case you have been involved in other fandoms - were they different/similar to Supernatural?

4:Has the supernatural fandom got fractions. and if so, do you consider yourself to be member of any of them?

5:How big would you say your fan based social circle is?

6: How big would you think the Supernatural fandom is ( It does not have to be a number it can also be for example suggesting that it is say larger than the smalville-fandom but smaller than the Harry Potter-fandom).

7: How big a part does the "culture" and mentality in the Fandom play when you choose to become involved , more or less than your devotion to the show?

8: Does Supernatural fangirls really go to special hell?;) And if so do they do so with more frequency than fangirls from other fandoms?

Fic preferences

This time around I am not going to ask you what your favorite work of fan fiction is, nor am I going to ask you to make a top 10 of fic. or to make a canon of fic. I will probably be asking you to do all those things in other posts. but this time around we are going about it a bit differently because lists of the above mentioned kind stand in risk of  becoming more about how to define literary quality in a broader sense, or about defining fanfiction as a whole. and thereby less about subjective preferences and  the reading pleasure each individual reader might have had.

In short The point of the Meme-style list below is to approach fic. from a more subjective angle.
I hope some of you will participate

1.    Fic. that changed my view on the canon work.

2.    Fic. that changed my view on the fan fiction genre.

3.    Fic. that changed my view on the world. (it does´nt have to be something big)

4.    Fic. I have re-read the most times.

5.    Fic. I was surprised to discover I liked.

6.    Fic. I have revisited most in my mind.

7.    Fic. I would like to see transformed into canon.

8.    Fic. that I liked, but I would´nt like to see transformed into canon.

9.    Fic. that made me happy when I was sad.

10. Fic. that made me sad when I was happy.

11. Fic. that I feel ought to be out there but have not found yet.

  • Maybe you and the show just grow apart and when you one day tuned in on Reaper you realized “this is the supernatural show for me:)”. . ?

Are you an Ex-Supernatural fan? Or do you feel you might be heading there?Go here. . .

Where you never really a fan of the show, though you tried? – Go here. .
